Meet Stephen Nelson
Stephen Nelson is a dedicated community leader deeply invested in Palm Desert’s future. His service on the Public Safety Committee and Resource Preservation and Enhancement Committee demonstrates his commitment to protecting residents and ensuring a sustainable environment. As President of the Genesis homeowners’ association and a member of the Desert Learning Academy school site committee, Stephen works tirelessly to improve our neighborhoods and strengthen the Palm Springs Unified School District.
Proven Leadership and a Commitment to the Future
For nearly 30 years, Stephen has levered his expertise in the Software, Cybersecurity and Telecommunications industry to tackle complex challenges for diverse clients, from major cities to the US Federal Government. He built a successful career, starting as a customer service representative and rising to become a Senior Vice President of Global Operations. Now, he brings this proven leadership and problem-solving skills to serve our community.
Deeply Rooted in North Palm Desert
Since 2019, Stephen has called North Palm Desert his home, actively engaging in the community and building connections. He understands the unique needs and aspiration of our residents and businesses. Prior to settling here, he lived in Los Angeles for the last 25 years and also lived in San Francisco, Ohio, Northern Virginia, and originally from The Crescent City, New Orleans, Louisiana.
A Vision for Progress, Grounded in Experience
Stephen attended Bowling Green State University focusing on Business Administration. In 2014, Stephen successfully completed Harvard University professional development program. This combination of practical experience and academic rigor equips him to address our community’s challenges with a strategic and informed approach.
Dedicated to Making a Difference
Outside of work, Stephen is passionate about giving back. Whether volunteering his time, exploring the Coachella Valley on his bike, or skiing in Mammoth, Lake Tahoe, Aspen and Whistler, BC, or caring for his mother and his 2 minor nephews, he demonstrates a dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
Stephen’s Priorities to Make Palm Desert Safe and Livable
Invest in public safety, utilize new technologies to prevent crime, and ensure proper funding for first responders and law enforcement that’s on pace with our population growth.
Protect our environment and promote sustainable policies by implementing an environmental plan that tackles the unique issues facing our desert communities.
Strengthen our local economic development, make Palm Desert the technological hub of the Coachella Valley, and improve educational opportunity and access to good-paying jobs of the future.
